Opening Reception | Sister Sailors & Sons of Sag Harbor

Curated by Dan Rizzie
Opening Reception: Thursday, August 27th, 6:00 - 8:00pm

A continuation of Sabina Streeter's previous show, Captains, Mates, + Widows, the upcoming Sister Sailors & Sons of Sag Harbor is a collection of paintings inspired by the lives and personae of the great whaling era.

The exhibit features a poetic interpretation of iconic Sag Harbor characters such as the great mariner Captain Hand VI (war hero and inspiration for the James Fennimore Cooper character "Natty Bumpo"), Minard Lafever (architect of The Sag Harbor Whaler's Church), Benjamin Hunting II (celebrated captain and builder of The Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum), as well as the various women who accompanied their husbands on their voyages to sea.

Sister Sailors & Sons of Sag Harbor will contain an original soundtrack by Carlos Lama as well as text and biographies highlighting the historical background.
